Los 40 Años desde una mirada exterior
11 de Septiembre arrived in Chile this year with much anxiety and a general feeling of unspoken suspense. This year marked 40 years since the military coup d’état and the beginning of 17 years in a dark period of Chile’s history. Thousands of Chileans were killed, tortured or simply disappeared without ever being found again. Of course there were also those who benefited from the many in-egalitarian reforms made by dictator Augusto Pinochet. This bilateral political dynamic can and still is seen in the streets of Chile today. And so, as the United States of America mourns 9/11, Chile finds itself grieving and remembering too, whilst others raise flags in support of what was (for them) a proud part of a very complicated history.
